I’ve had more conversations with ghosts
As of late
Than the solid things you call people.
I’ve whispered secrets with Emily.
Laughed great guffaws
And spurned the advances of Ernest.
Smoked a pipe or two with Roald
While we had a few glasses.
I’ve spent more time conversing with the long dead
Than I have the current living.
What I like about them most
Is they know
They have nothing new to say.
